Right. I was looking at getting a bike through the cycle to work scheme but it looks like that might have gone out the window. However, I still need a new ride.
I have up to £1,500 to spend but the less the better if at all possible. It is going to be primarily used for Trail centre riding but want something that is not going to hold me back on the rougher stuff. I have narrowed it down to the below bikes and would like some advice on which would be a better buy, or even if there are any others that people have had good experiences with that I should consider:
Giant Trance X3(2011)
Boardman FS Team (2011)
Lapierre Zesty 214 (2011)
Trek Fuel EX6 (2011)
Mongoose Teocali Elite (2009)
Any advice appreciated as usual guys. Thanks

The Trance, Fuel and the Boardman rest on the lighter side of riding (but will eb good in experineced hands) while the Zesty and Teocali have a bit more travel and built for harder riding.
I'd also take a look at this for harder riding:

or if you can stretch to it, this:

How do you mean that they would be good in experienced hands? Do you think that they will hold me back?
The reason I was looking at the Boardman was becuase it seems a really good spec for the money with the 130mm fork and also on the lighter side of things as well.
Interesting that you have recommended the Voodoo bikes. I haven't really looked twice at them as I thought that they were at the lower end of the quality spectrum?0 -
Does anybody else have any bikes that they recommend?0

Supersonic pretty much sums it up.0

The heftier longer travel bikes here have more damage limitation, so if you put a foot wrong are more likely to get away with it.
No problems with voodoo quality.0 -

I have a Zesty 214 which i absolutley love. I fancied a Canyon but wanted to try before I buy.
Coming from short travel xc bikes, I was a little worried about being "over-biked", but the bike is so confidence inspiring that I would never look back.
Top machine for £1300 / £1400 - but then I would say that I guess.0
