Bedgebury Today
Took my first trip of the year today and my first since some one-on-one training with Jedi that I had in December This was due to a lingering chesty cough that I've had since Xmas & I've only just this week felt well enough to start to commute again.
Arrived at Bedgebury nice and early but the car park was already 1/2 full of mountain bikers. Bright sunshine but very crisp and frost still on the ground. Layered up and hit the trail. The slog up to the top of the hill to the start of the Red & already gasping (I'm normally pretty fit but this cold has taken it out of me), then I set off on the run.
What can I say? Awesome! I was so much more concious of my riding, my body positioning, looking for apex's, looking ahead & basically nailing every berm and jump Whereas before I wouldn't plan ahead and just sort of "do it", now I was able to see an obstacle, sum it up and start doing it as I was looking at the next one or sometimes the one after that. The confidence that gave me was immense and other than there being a lot of slippery roots about & my breathing, I felt so much more in control and enjoyed myself immensely. Anywhere I could get air, I just launched and through the pump/jump/berm section I was so much more fluid, accurate and on it compared to my previous visits.
If you get the chance then get yourself over to Jedi for a day's training. Other than than my lungs taking a hammering today (i've now regressed to coughing like mad), if today was anything to go by, I'm really going to be enjoying the rest of the year on the trails and improving on the skills Jedi taught me. Absolutely the best upgrade ever to your bike
On the other hand, don't go out on a hard ride until your cold/flu/cough has fully recovered
