Tube valve splitting

Hello All,

My first posting, I have had a this persistant problem since last October, I've gone through about 5 presta tubes where the valve has split on the front wheel.

It first started when I put my bro-in-laws new Continental tyre in while were doing some gental rides in Kirroughtree, so I thought it was the tyre, so I fitted a Panaracer I had in the garage, same happened this weekend.

My wheel is about 6 years old (not sure if this has a bearing on this problem)

Looking at some previous postings, should I replace the rim tape as starter before I think about wheels?

Thanks in advance
John

Do you have Presta only wheels?

Sorry you're right - it's ripping around where the value meets the tube.

I can get a photo online to make things clearer if it helps.

are you using the locking ring to hold the valve in place?

Worth a try, I guess they supply them for a reason.

    It can be.

Also make a mark on your tyre and rim so you can see if the tyre is slipping or if it is just the tube.

And, most important, be sure you pump them to the right pressure. Too low, and the tyre may slip while braking and tearing the valve with it. (EDIT:As stated above)

When you fit the tyre, just align a certain feature on the sidewall like makers name with the valve hole.

Seriously can't believe you removed the lockrings to fit the valve and didn't refit it.......sorry, I just can't, especially not after tube 2,3 and 4.....

the only issue with that is remembering which letter it was aligned to. the one it is aligned to now or the first or second to the left or right.

it is great for finding punctures as the history does not matter. ;)

Sorry, should have been clearer, I use the first letter of the makers name (P for panaracer, S for Schwalbe etc, makes it easy to be consistent!)
