Hi just starting stripping the cranks on the orange 5 for a re grease but there seems to be a part missing that splits the crank into two its on the sprocket side of the crank under the shaft cap . It appears there is a reverse type thread extractor missing does anybody know where i can purchase one of these from or is there a after market tool out there.
have seen on at wiggle description btl-14 power pull crank splitter but does not say if compatable with raceface x type

Sounds like you have already removed the extractor.
Pics?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

once the outer cap is removed i can see a larger internal thread which needs something screwd inside it to make the cranks split ive looked on the tech bit on this site it appears to be a ring that should be left inside the crank maybe mine is missing0

The outer extracting ring should not be removed."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

i think im telling you wrong just had another look and see these are evolve xc cranks not x type cranks so my question is what size extractor do i need to split them is it a 22mm one like the park tool one.0

It is either self extracting and non standard size or It is a standard tool thread size."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

ok it must be standard thread then bike shop tommorow0

If they are Evolve XC with the external BB leave the big nut in place (10mm allen wrench) and use an 8mm allen wrench to remove the cranks, turning it in the direction of the arrows on the big nut.0

I had the same problem on My orange 5 (2008) they didnt have the self extracting bolt fitted... Just use an ISIS crank extractor tool or a std square taper one with a 5p piece under the pin....
