Wide tyres

Hi can someone recommend me some wide tyres for my Orange Patriot? I currently have Nobby Nic's F&R 2.25 but they are quite narrow and also have picked up 2x punctures on them within a week of each other (tyres are only 2 months old) I had Kenda Nevegals previously on my Giant Talon and had 1 puncture in 7 months!

Was looking at Maxxis High Rollers but they are big bucks and cant really justify spending £70 on 2 tyres so needs to be cheaper than this as well.

Any help appreciated!

  • <What type of riding? I find for anything other than DH, a 2.25 is more that sufficient. I've got 2.2s on my bike, and it's a good comprimise for all riding.

Well mostly XC to be fair on local trails but do go away with friends now and again to Wales, Quantocks etc.. I just find the nobby nics are very narrow, the kenda's were actually quite wide and I did like them but dont know if there were any better alternatives? my specialized has the Captains on and they are v.wide but they do clog up a fair bit so are pretty poor on very muddy trails.
  • It may not necessarily be the width that is the problem, it may just be the tread for the type of terrain you ride which is causing the problems. Give a set of Mountain King 2.2s a try, I swear by them, and really anything over that size for XC is just overkill if you ask me.
