New bike 2 - 2.5K for XC Trail and home mechanic

The new bike saga,
Was looking at an Orange Five but what other bikes out there for between 2 and 2.5K are worth a look. I'm 6ft and mainly ride XC and Traiul centres with a few trips to the lakes for big rides. I'm fairly fit so dont want anything too heavy and overweight but must be comfy and ideally suited to home mechanic so no overly complex suspension arrangements. Not much to ask then.
