Looking for a new handlebars

Hi,
I spent the last couple of rides debating weather to get a wider handlebar, as I’m finding I need more control over tricky terrain. I have a 680mm bar on there atm, I’ve decided to get a bigger one but don't know how much bigger any help would help allot, I’m looking toward somewhere between 700-750mm. and have £45 to spend.
Thanks Sam (:

No one can advise you how wide to go. Try a few bikes with wider bars & see what works.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Depends how you ride, what your riding position is, what you ride, all kinds of things. Along with just personal preference.
Typically wider bars, apart from just being the trendy thing to do, are used for more control when going faster downhill. Was a "Downhill" thing purely but has migrated to all mountain and trail biking. In my opinion it in part compensates for the shorter stems people run for similar terrain, which again gives better control for the downs compared to the steers-like-a-bus steering of long stem XC bikes (great for straight lines in a climb though). Shorter stem and short bars makes it twitchy so long bars are used. Note that wide bars makes the front wander about on climbs a bit.
See if anyone else has a wide bar and give it a go down a typical trail you do. Think about whether you find your current bars actually too short, or do you just think longer would be better because everyone has longer bars these days (I'm a sucker for that one ).0 -

have a nose through the classifieds on here and try to pick up some cheap wide bars to experiment with, bars on other peoples bikes makes no sense as their bike will be nothing like yours, unless they have the same obviously0

These seem a good buy, I'm looking at the xc version.
