your closest place would be rivington, you can string a good 20 miler together up there.
give these guys a shout. http://www.thetribembc.co.uk/ there based in chorley, it's just up the road and they ride up rivi all the time.
good luck in leigh by the way, i moved away from there after being burgled.0 -
yep leigh definatly is a sh1thole
theres nothing really that good to ride in leigh there are a few tracks you could link up..
mutley 1981 has local route around leigh.
best bet is rivi it ok up there, or lee quarry and cragg quarry, or a 50 min drive you could be at gisburn forest or an hour away is llandegla.
you could get burgled anywere...www.bearbackbiking.com

I've been up here for a while now - working in leigh for 4 yrs and living just out of Leigh for 2+, its flat as a flat place locally..
As said above, closest would be rivi, its pretty good up there, but can get quite busy.
Make sure you've got some good security....0 -
oh no more trips to lee quary what a shame , might have to give rivington a go soon to see what its like not been out since before xmas0

Why no more lee quarry trips? Its only about 10 mins further than rivi in the car..0

im half asleep but i did put the smiley face at the end of it if anything i would be closer to lee quary when i move. love the place, i was even doing the drop off's that lead into the pump track thing last time , so i was quite pleased with myself about that.
didnt really enjoy gisburn when i went but i think that was more down to my fitness levels but since then ive dropped about 10lbs, plus my navigation skills are crap and getting there would be an issue for me :roll:0 -

ah, i read it as "oh, no more trips" instead of "oh no, more trips..."
should really concentrate on work and then I wouldn't get confused
As Ali says, get up lee and give us both a shout, I love it up there0 -

Have a few routes but has been said already it's pretty flat, out main one is start in Leigh through Lilford park woods onto Bee Fold Lane upto Atherton then up to Hagfold Rucks where we have a short loop in woods with a few jumps/drops etc, onto Daisy Hill for a blast through the park even though it's tarmaced you can get some decent speed. Another is the old railway lines at Little Hulton to Monton then back down the canal to Leigh which i use as a training ride as it's about 20 or so miles.
We did an epic last year on the canal upto Botany Bay then loop back through Healy Nab, Rivington, Horwich.
Give us a shout when your down and we'll sort a rideout and once the weather improves we'll be out most nights, there are a couple of lads that organise local rides on Faceache but never met up with them yet. What if your dreams and fears existed in the same place? What if to get to heaven, you had to brave hell? What if everything you've ever wanted cost you everything you've ever achieved? Would you still go there?0 -
Living in Daisy Hill I have a fairly good grasp of where to go
There's the obvious of Rivington area but there are other places once you put your head into it.
Ride up to Daisy Hill or to Atherton stations and get the train into Manchester Victoria, then out to the Calder Valley.
Get the train to Manchester Piccadilly then into the Peak District (New Mills is easy). Or Roman Lakes in Marple.
If you are gravity orientated or like to get airbourne, Delamere is not to far away on the train from Manchester either.
If you can drive the possibilities are endless:
All of the above plus:
Llandegla and the Welsh borders
Snowdonia
Further into the Peak District
Gisburn and the Forest of Bowland
Lee & Cragg Quarries and the surrounding Pennine hills
The Yorkshire Dales (beautiful )
The Lake District - Grizedale and Whinlatter plus even better natural stuff
The North York Moors
Cannock Chase
This list is by no means everything, but should keep you going for a bit0 -
