Skewers for MTB/hybrid

I fixed a puncture on my rear wheel of my hybrid bike today and then carried the wheel half a mile or so. In that time the nut that screws on to the skewer on the opposite side from the QR lever fell off, along with the spring.
My questions are:
a) is it possible to get spare nuts and springs for QR bolts? (I think generally not)
b) if not and I have to buy a new QR skewer are they generally universal? As long as I get a 130mm/135mm(?) skewer does it matter what the brand is?
Thanks. J

1. Go to your LBS. They probably have loads of second hand bits (especially springs, probably nuts) out back in 'the drawers' they can sell you for peanuts.
2. Yes they are as long as its a 135.A Flock of Birds

They are longer than 135mm though - rear skewers tend to be 168-173mm for 135mm OLD hubs.0
