Recommend a Campsite in the Alps

Can anyone recommend a campsite somewhere at the foot of the Alps in the Grenoble area?

Thinking of heading over for the tour but I'm guessing they'll be booked up pretty soon.

We camped in Vizille last summer here: http://www.campingvizille.com/ about 40 - 60 minute cycle to Bourg d'Oisans. Great ride from Sechilienne to Lac Luitel then back via Uriage, you can get that in before breakfast. About 100m less climbing than "the Alpe" but if anything more challenging. Not much to do in Vizille itself. There are several campsites in Bourg, but I guess they fill fast.

That looks like a good option, should be able to get a few rides in and the end of stage 11 is pretty close by.

First thing is to head into Bourgs and pick up this from the Tourist Office

I've stayed at this campsite 3 times, and can recommend it. It's 7km from Bourg d'Oisans, just past where you turn off the main road to go up the Croix de Fer:

Its a nice site, right at the foot of Alpe d'Huez - we are going back again this year.

How close to Grenoble do you want to be? I can recommend one in Aix-les-Bains (75km) and one in Savines-le-Lac (130km).

But in my experience, you won't need to worry about booking - most motorhomes etc will be in laybys or on the side of Alpe d'Huez!
