Can someone confirm if the 'SRAM X0 Front Mech 2x10sp Low Clamp' mech shown here: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=55240, is compatible with a 42 tooth outer ring on the X0 Crankset?

I've called chain reaction helpline and have been told I would need to buy a X9 or X6 front mech - I just find this strange that SRAM would have a combination which wasn't compatible accross the hole X0 2x10 lineup.

Can someone confirm if the one linked will work on a 42 tooth outer?

If not is it a simple case to remove the outer ring and replace with a 36 tooth outer? Only ever worked on Shimano stuff in the past so I'm making the presumtion the removal of rings is pretty much the same for SRAM.

it should be fine. not seen anything saying it is not good to 44T for the 3 ring version.

But there may be something I have not seen.

Well they do different mechs for each ring size, a 36t, a 39t and a 42t. I assume the cage is a different radius on the smaller ones, weather you could make the 36t work on a 42t ring I don't know - you may not have the vertical adjustment to get the tail of the mech to clear the teeth.
  • Well I've been having a quick search and come across two things:

    1) Apparently I'll get away with running my XT front mech on the 28/42 with X0 front shifters until I figure out what I'm going to do regarding the 42 tooth.

    2) Have a look at this: http://www.ibiscycles.com/support/techn ... atibility/ - Looks like direct mount adapter for 34.9mm frame to use direct mount mechs, and it looks like sram do a direct mount top pull to run 42 tooth.

So might get away with it unless someone knows a good reason not to try it (costs aside)..
