Hi,
my wife is going to let me 'indulge' myself this year so I'm looking around for a decent cycling tour in the mountains. Has anybody tried the guided tours from purevelo (www.purevelo.com)? Their routes look pretty good and appear to be more personal than the big names in the area.
Thanks
Mike

Go to a place like Le Grand Bornand (30miles from Geneva), get a chalet or take a tent, and there are more than 100 cols to cycle in that region and cycling maps galore to follow! Fantastic area and won't cost you much!
And if your wife wants to come with you, there is loads to see and do in that area while you are off out on the bike 8)http://www.snookcycling.wordpress.com - Reports on Cingles du Mont Ventoux, Alpe D'Huez, Galibier, Izoard, Tourmalet, Paris-Roubaix Sportive & Tour of Flanders Sportive, Amstel Gold Xperience, Vosges, C2C, WOTR routes....0 -
+1 for Le Grand Bornand. A lovely place and very well positioned for some great rides.
Unlike many French ski resorts, this one is a working village with a market and a good ambiance. Agree that it would also be enjoyable for the non-cyclist, especially as it is close to Annecy, where people who like shopping seem to find their pleasures. :?0 -
Don't rule out the Pyrenees. Lots of fantastic riding (Tourmalet, Luz Ardiden, Peyresourde, Superbagneres etc etc) and plenty to do for the non cyclist if your wife fancies tagging along.
