Riding '50's' through the summer?

I'm really enjoying riding the pinarello FP2 I picked up at the end of the summer. The ride itself is a big step up from the Spesh allez elite which I was on beforehand for a couple of years. There have been a few small upgrades made, but the one change I now want to make is a wheel upgrade.
The Shimano Rs500 have done the job as a winter wheel, but in my mind they dont seem to roll even as well as the mavics that were on the elite. So I fancy getting a new set to see me through the summer.
A bit about my cycling. 30-40 on my own on a Saturday, 50-70 on a Sunday club run, which generally are flattish. Come the summer there will be more evening runs, much the same. I've decided I'm going to try out the club time trials this year (more than likely just the 10's), and I will do a fair few sportives of 100k or 100 miles. Depending on how things go might do a bit of club racing too. One sportive I plan in June is the Wicklow 200 which by all accounts is through quite hilly terrain. I'm 5'9, 74kgs (hope to get to 70ish in next couple of months)
So, to the question; I've seen a set of Shimano RS80 c50's on planet x at a decent price. They look the dogs and get a Decent right up. However does it make sense to have these as an all round wheel from march through to sept, when the rs500's will go back on for the winter?
Or, am I just getting sucked into the bling factor, and should I be looking at a good set of say, mavic kysrium sl's as an all round wheel which would suit my needs. The budget for wheels is around the £500 mark.
Cheers

Go for it.
I ride Cosmic Carbones (52mm) thru the summer and I think they're faster over just about any terrain than shallower lighter wheels. I ride in Yorkshire dales.
2 things to beware:
If you were going to Alps or Pyrenees I'd take shallow wheels.
On really windy days, just swap your front to your R500 if you must. It has to be a proper gale to be necessary though IME.I'm 75kg, if you're a lot less you might need to be more conservative.0 -
Thanks Flesh, think I'll bite the bullet and go with them. No plans for the alps this year!
Out of interest, what Tyres are you running on the mavs?0 -

Michelin Pro Race 3s - I've used Michelins for years and find them fantastic. Enjoy the RS80s, that's a great deal you're getting at 499.0
