I wasn't looking for it, just stumbled across it. Have just watched a 30 minute prog' called 'Hard Talk' on the BBC iPlayer: the BBC News Channel, and it was a very good face to face interview with the highly articulate Graeme Obree, one of the very great past masters. I have no idea when it was first aired, but worth a watch.
It's there for the next week if I remember right. Cannot be fagged going back to collect the link as am tapping this out on the 'phone.

Thanks - If you re a podcast fan, The Obree episode of the Don Logan Podcast is also excellent!

  • It was on TV late last night. Better than the Millar one, though it wasn't much of a 'hard' interview with awkward or searching questions. In the old days they would interview people involved in third world dictatorships. I got the idea the interviewer was a bit of a cycling fan, or at least had warmed to Obree's performance during the interview.

What a great interview with one of my cycling heroes , I don't know what he's up to generally but nice to see him speaking so openly and honestly and seeming to be in a much better place

Met him in a bike shop in Glasgow and one of the most down to earth guys you will ever meet. no ego no bull tell you like it is and would never call ex team mates "Dead Wood" take not Mr Wiggins.

As mentioned in the interview, Graeme has set his target on the human powered vehicle record:

    100mph is the goal!
His training manual was also released in December and I've heard it's good. Has anyone read it?

He always gives a good interview, seems such a genuine and interesting chap... any other books by him apart from his training programme out there???

Another thing of course covering some of the topics of sports and depression that are talked about in that interview is the Freddie Flintoff programme.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b019gbpk/Freddie_Flintoff_Hidden_Side_of_Sport/

Oh, also, i noticed while watching one of these that the BBC iPlayer volume 'goes to 11', :)

i have the utmost respect for mr obree, his impressive achievement's against the odd's make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, i've watched the flying scotsman about 50 times and viewed all of the youtube footage of him i can lay my hands on.

i'm not the kind of person that suffers from hero worship, but i would love to meet him.

Always interesting Mr Obree. His interview with Colin Murray on 5 Live some months back was classic! struggling to track it down now for another listen. :)

That was one of the best pieces of radio interviewing ever. It made me appreciate that Colin Murray is actually a capable broadcaster as he completely rode rough shod all over his producers to get Obree on for a lot longer. His questionning was relevant to Obree's very good, open and honest answers and it was very engaging. As I said, probably one of the best radio interviews I've ever heard.
