Evening all, can someone tell me is there a definitive way of making sure a frame is a genuine R5CA? Serial number location and number range for example? I guess I could weigh it?

Buy from an approved dealer, or if second hand, a receipt from the original purchase from an approved dealer?
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

Double posting....but using two profiles?? Hmm

Weigh it against what?? Published weights are generally inaccurate anyway. Are you looking at a 2nd hand one? Have a look under the BB for a frame number

Can't be that many about so find out where it was bought or get the frame # and contact the supplier or distributor

  • 1. Double posts? Clarify.
    2. Weight. There aren't many copies or fakes sub 700g. Isn't that the big r5ca selling point?
    3. It's used and the guy has no receipt. I want to check the serial number with Madison and maybe elsewhere also.....
    4. He tells me it just has a barcode sticker, no etched or stamped number. Can this be right?

It's a bit too cheap for comfort so I need to be sure it's not someone else's pride and joy and it's a genuine r5ca.

On my R3-SL it is a barcode sticker but its under the lacquer under the bottom bracket. There is also a small round white sticker which is on top of the lacquer. Could be completely different for your frame as it was made in the USA.

My R5 has just a barcode sticker under BB - no etched number.

I'd ask him for the serial number and check with Cervelo, they'll probably be able to tell you stuff to look for as well. Out of interest how much does a £7.5k frame go for second-hand?...

Even with no receipt, he should know where it came from - I'm sure the dealer in question will have a record of it given the cost.

  • Well, Madison arent missing any and no dealers have reported one stolen. Ive searched the boards and cant find a stolen one. The frame number checks out as an R5CA. Looks like its bite the bullet and stump up the cash time!
  • how much?

  • £2100 frame, forks and rotor crank / bb. Should be ideal for the Fred this year. If only I could find an Ultegra Di2 group set at the same sort of discount.....

My guess is that its hot. Who spends that much on a bike and doesnt keep the receipt or register it for warranty on the Cervelo website? There has been a spate of garage and house break ins round where I live solely for high end bikes. Someone I know had all 5 of his bikes stolen from his garage and they where expensive bikes, at least one was a Cervelo. The police think cyclists are being followed home by the thieves.

Two grand does seem a mad price for a frame that's more than three times that price when new
  • Hi - Is this still for sale?
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

Why is he flogging it do cheap ? He must have a story - and I'm sure he could get another grand if he put it on eBay ?
  • He's selling it cheap due to redundancy. He's tried on eBay. Didn't meet the reserve of £3500. I'm supposed to be having a look next week (Tuesday) and I'm still very unsure of its credentials. I think the only option is to travel without the cash about my person and take a big mate with me! Haha. I've had a scan and can't find any stolen reports and I've spoken directly with Madison who are telling me that it sound genuine (bb right etc) and they aren't missing any.

Oh, so it didnt meet the £3500 reserve so he's instantly given up on that and decided to sell it for £2,100 ...hmmmmm... sounds well odd behavior doesnt it, you'd just re-list it and knock £500 off the reserve or something, not decide you'll settle for £1,400 less instantly suuuuuurely.

Sounds odd. £4.5k street price new arent they
  • I've never seen them available at £4500 new.
