Indoor/turbo trainer for MTB

Was thinking if it would be worth getting a turbo trainer to help me advance my training a bit this year. I just bought a Garmin 800 so would like to make use of its traing features. Living in London in winter doesn't make it easy to clock up many hours on the bike (apart from half hour a day getting to/from work) I've got a commuter (Rockhopper) and a full suss mtb so could just hook the Rockhopper up to it for a few hours a week. I don't know much about them, the roller ones look quite tricky to balance on so I think the turbo type might be preferable. Do you have to buy another wheel for them or is this just coz it's a pain in the arse to hook up the back wheel?
Are there any recommended models I should be looking at? I probably wouldn't want to spend more than £100-150.

I have a Tacx trainer that I'm more than happy with, it's quite a bit more than what you want to spend but there are cheaper ones on the market.
I would change the rear tyre on your Rockhopper to a slick one, you will also need a new rear quick release if it doesn't look like this:

i have 2 cycleops turbo trainers they come with the qr sqewer so it's just a case of taking the original out and replacing it with the cycleops one..
you could get one with in your budget.
i run mine with a knobby tyre on and it fine quite noisey but fine..
i find a get bored pretty quick using mine i would rather go out for a quick ride on the road or trail...www.bearbackbiking.com

I sometimes put the road bike on mine but as said above it is boring. I bought an Elite mag volare from Halfords for £89 in the sale last year and they are doing the same deal now.

I purchased one 2 years ago, used it for about 40 minutes in total and that was it.
Many people love them though; but I imagine it's one of those things that if you don't like it then it'll become very dull very quickly. What We Achieve In Life, Echoes In Eternity0
