knackered bearings?

Over the past couple of days I've noticed a slight rattling noise as I spin the rear wheel. I know a diagnosis is pretty tricky just from that description, but is it likely to be a knackered rear hub due to aggressive jet washing!? 
There's no play in the rear wheel at the moment, but is that what'll happen and is a replacement hub with less jet washing the answer!?
