Just got back, first time there and was impressed.

However, it's not an ideal place to go when it's your first time, in this weather anyway. It would be nice if there were more trail markers. However the weather was pretty shocking. By half 2 there was so much fog that we had to head back due to not being able to see anything.

Also, my flat is now covered in grit, as is my bike. Overall was very good though. I think next visit will be when the weatjer is guarenteed to be decent.

Any advice for the next time I head up?

  • Never expect the weather to be decent! Been there a few times now, can be nice sunny and warm at the bottom and at the top it'll be wet, windy and cold. But that's just the nature of the area.

We were up there this morning, from about 9 till 11:30, did start to get a bit grim towards the end.

Advice for next time, dont leave it too long, its like a big kids play area :D

Lee has a weather system unique to itself, ignore all weather reports etc and go expecting fog, wind, rain...

Trails are marked but your looking for discs usually on rocks marking the way not trail posts, they are there but can easily be missed, try doing a few loops around the skills area next time great for improving cornering.

I like the place, it's more of a place to session things that most trail centre's.

Llandegla has a bit, and its well maintained, but also can be a bit tame. Lee quarry is a bit more rough, and has a bit more natural (sort of) stuff to offer. Big fan of the place.

Aside from the grit, which is everywhere, especially my brake pads.

March / April will be a good time, we often get dry trails in the spring, just look north and wait for the plumes of smoke to appear. This will be the kids setting fire to dead grass from last year which has had time to dry out.

Make sure you get across to Cragg Quarry as well, maps for the quarries can be downloaded here

we were helping 2 newbies out at lee quarry on sunday, with directions and advising then not to bother cycling over to cragg quarry in those conditions...

as mentioned i'm sure lee has it's own micro climate..

learn to ride it in the wet this time of year and come the alleged dry season you will be pinning it...

lee is pretty good but is fast becoming a victim of it's own success thanks to the mag features..

it is begging out for some bigger stuff some decent jumps and drops...

have you tried stumpys masterpiece that is gisburn forest, if not you may be impressed.

+1 it does need a more freeride/dh section the pump tracks are good but its not the same as a good run.

Gizzy is fantastic I try to get up weekly, if you ain't been up there it's defo one to try.
