after a soft shell jacket for winter riding. I've got a gore tex shell for when the rain really hammering down, so looking for something that warm, will keep of the light rain and breaths well. currently using a endura mt500 jersey / jacket when it's cold, but it's a bit too thin when it's gets grim weather wise. budgets up to £100. any ideas?

Just bought an Endura Convert softshell which converts to a gilet. Nice, warm and well made. Also considered the Windchill but liked the idea of the jacket/gilet depending on the conditions. Retails at £100 but there are deals to be had in the shops as opposed to online (which is very unusual these days)! One excellent feature is the glasses wipe built into the chest pocket. Well worth checking out!2017 YT Jeffsy 27 AL Comp

Check Decathlon, their stuff is good and a lot cheaper. Failing that, the Aldi jacket is suppose to be pretty good for the money.0

I've got a regatta exert soft shell, cost about £20 and its bloomin great. It's fine in everything up to full on rain, for which my regatta water proof (again about £20) comes out.
Won't suit the brand snobs but they are functionally fine and you aint gona be miffed if you crash and ruin it.

If you go for a jacket that is not cycle specific just make sure it has a long back to it or it will be as much use as a chocolate sundial0

More critical i'd say for roadie style, ie really leaning forward position, than for us hairy unwashed mtb'ers Does help to keep the bum dry though.
But then again, going off the majority in "mudguard or not" thread, seems like most enjoy getting a wet ass anyway :?0 -
I use a cheap Dare2Be softshell jacket that cost 30 quid from go outdoors, incredibly waterproof and fleecySwveeeet¡¡¡0

Wiggle offer a DHB softshell for around £55 at the moment. I purchased a Madison trail softshell jacklet from Tredz via Amazon for £35, which I thought was a bargain. I will review after I have used in anger.0

I'd steer clear of anything with a membrane; you'll just end up sweating inside. The idea of soft-shell is, its meant to be more breathable than a hard-shell, but less waterproof. The membrane might make it waterproof, but reduces breathability.Planet X Kaffenback 2

The arms unzip as well if it gets a bit warm
it repels the rain very well, you do not feel the wind when riding and I find I never sweat in it as it breathes very well
last winter I just rode with the Phantom jacket and only on a few very cold days wore a base layer under the Phantom
you can get a tad cool when you stop if its very cold though as its not that thickSpecialized Camber Expert
