Hi. I'm looking buying a Roubaix and was hoping someone on here can let me know if they have any experience of riding a S Works SL3 version over the 'standard' frame. I'm looking at a 2010 Comp bike for the same price as a 2011 SL3 frameset - is the SL3 really that much better.

Will be using the bike for leisure riding and will be doing London to Paris in Julym

Appreciate any feedback

Cheers
Ciao Marco

Yes, the SL3 is a better frame. It has a better quality carbon, I believe it's lighter and it has OSBB - basically Specialized's version of BB30.

Whether the difference in cost is worth it, is only really something you can decide.

I'd urge you to also consider a Bianchi Infinito (there's a couple of decent ones on eBay ATM) or a Cervelo RS - both are very similar in terms of geometry.

My mate has had elite, sl3 and Sworks due to warranty upgrades.

I asked him if there was much in it and he thought not. He's not much of an out of saddle masher though.

Sorry to jump the post but wondered how/why your mate got to progress up the frame "family tree" on the basis of warranty issues?

I've got a Roubaix Elite and wouldn't mind knowing what failures to look out for if you can get frame upgrade as well as a replacement?! To be honest, the lifetime frame warranty was one of the reasons I went for Spesh rather than Ribble or Planet X, although I'm a little perturbed if your mate has had a couple of failures....
Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...
  • +1 to Luv2ride - how was that done ??

Does you really get a lifetime warranty on Specialized carbon frames????

    Hey, 2 x cracked frames.

Dunno if it was just paint of the frame, cracks were hairline, frame didn't fail he just noticed them while cleaning. Probably just paint/lacquer.
