Bike testing clothing

Hi,

Going to try out some bikes today.

As a complete beginner I don't have anything particularly suitable to wear and I'm worried a pair of jeans won't allow me to get a real feel for the bikes. Any suggestions? Just seems a bit cold for shorts.

Andy

if you're going to test ride them properly then i'm sure the shop will have somewhere you can change into your proper cycling kit?

wear long socks, tuck your jeans into your socks so that you don't come a cropper, and go testing

unless you've got road shoes with cleats, i wouldn't worry about the rest of what you're wearing

if you haven't any padded bib shorts, maybe now's the time to think about getting some, if you add a pair of leg warmers (cycling ones, not jane fonda's) then that'll be enough for days when it's down to about 6-7 celcius, below that a pair of padless tights over the top of the shorts might be better, but if you are expecting to lose weight i'd avoid buying too much clothing to begin with, otherwise you could end up with a lot of baggy/flappy stuff in a few months!

I will be buying some clothing once I have a bike, probably some bib shorts. Not too worried about sizing, I'm pretty lean as it is and if anything I'm intending on bulking up a bit in places.
