Want to go for a ride, but where...?
Evenin,
I live in Leicester, which is pretty flat and lacking in decent Xc trails,
Want to go for a ride tomorrow but haven't got time to head over to Cannock (only place I've ever really been bar ruttywater), is there anything similar closer to me?
Looked on the FC website they list Sherwood pines and Fineshade to be a closer option, these any good?
Any recommendations?

get up early buy an ordnance survey 1:25,000 map of the area you live in and start exploring tommorow.
it will take a little time but you will find a route that you can ride out of yor housey that you dont have to get in the car to get to....this will let you ride more often. urban xc can be just as fun as being out in the sticks 8)0 -
^ This. Get out and ride locally. If you're prepared to put the time in and hunt for it (and go where you're technically not supposed to be but don't cause any trouble) then you can find some real gems or make a few of your own.
However if you can't be arsed tomorrow then these shouldn't be too far from you. Don't expect them to be too technical.
Edit. Just realised I didn't actually put the link in.

There's a fair bit of nice stuff to be found, and in places like Robins wood there's loads to be found, ridden and potential to clear a few trails as long as you stay away from where the FC is working at the time and accept that eventually they'll get round to destroying whatever it is you've built.
Or use something like http://www.bikehike.co.uk/ to plan routes.0 -
I agree with the above, urban rides can be a lot of fun. Is there any canals near you?
One thing I love to do is cycle the canal for a bit and then just head off it at some random point, explore, go down back alleys, over bridges, through woods, anywhere that you like the look of exploring. Cycle a bit of the city you've never been to before.
Also, if you want any offroad look for bridleways, hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs here but cycling on bridleways is legal, find them by getting an OS map explorer or similar or online at wheres the path << just put that in google. Happy hunting and let us know how you get on.um .. . . . .0 -
Cheers Guys, never thought of just headin out the front door.... Got even less time than I thought today after the mrs had an eBay spree so now have to go Manchester tomorrow, which means more to do today.....
Decided to head to my parents house via the scenic route to see how much the meadows behind their house had changed since I was last there as a teen, loved exploring where I spent my youth.
Must say I am loving my new bike..(mountvision) Used to hard tails (jump frames) and keen BMX'er before that.
I'm very impressed with the fox setup on this bike the and lock downs make it such a versitle ride, but when the rears locked the hard seats not much cushioning for my rear....
Suspension feels very plush when hammering it, although do think I need a bit more pressure in the fork ( think I'm a bit heavier than the lad who had it before me).
Gear shift is lighting fast compared to my old bike and the hydros kick the s##t out of the cabled disks.
Think I may endup hurting myself on this bike, defo encourages me to hit things hard, kept heading back down logged stairs to see how much faster I could do them...
Few adjustments needed tho,
slight play in the headset it's a FSA might just need tightening up?
Front dérailleur hanger catches in top gear,
Seats a pain in my ar$e...
And don't think I'm keen on the mountain kings.
To oodles...0
