Hi all,

Dropped my beloved xen today and put a hairline crack in the inner..so need a new lid.

I like both the recon but especially the Urge Endur-o-matic..due to the extra protection...

Due you have an Urge (no pun intended) and how good is it ?

    Hi,

I have an Endur-O-Matic in green and I rather like it. When I wear mine I can definitely feel less air circulating around my head due the limited number of holes but this doesn't seem to make my head overheat. When reading reviews some people said they didn't like the way your head can get hot. From my point of view, the visor ventilation system and gangsta pad is good enough to get rid of sweat and keep your head cool enough. I bought mine a few months back so I've not really used it in extreme heat but when do we ever get that in the UK.

I find with other helmets I am constantly reminded that I am wearing one whereas with the Urge it just goes on and is forgotten about. I have the Small / Medium size with the thinner of the two sets of supplied pads which feels comfy on my head. The lack of a tensioning clip thing on the back of the helmet does take some getting used to but I find it more comfortable without it. Occasionally the strap loosens over a period of about a month but this has happened with most helmets I've owned.

Overall I'm really happy with it. I think if I ever have a bad off and need to replace it I'll get another. One of my mates also has one and he also is really pleased with his.

    Hope this helps,

Bought one last week £49 from leisure lakes. Very light and comfortable. First ride on Monday. Very impressed. I have a 57cm head and the L/XL fits me. Leisure lakes only have S/M left in their sale.
I had a recon before and I am much happier with the Urge, it sits down on my head better and also covers the back of the head better.

My only problem at the moment is finding a a light mount for my Cree torch.

I've had the EndurOMatic for a year now. It's a fantastic helmet - great protection, very light and it isn't too hot, even n the very hot summer days.

    try before you buy..

i to killed my giro zen and myself last year.. when i recovered from my broken bones i needed a new helmet for my whistler trip,,,
i had 661 recon and the urge at the top of my list, went to a lbs recon was weird size and would not fit my head shape and size..
and the urge would not fit to my head either.. now i dont know if i have a funny shaped head but my 2 giro helmets fit me fine,, hex and zen. so does my carbon tld d2 and my carbon the fullface lid and my protec snowboard helmet...
i ended up getting another giro zen to replace the one i killed...

was gutted i really wanted the urge lid to..
  • Same as Delcol said...

Urge are one of the only helmets brands that don't feel right on my head. Slightly uncomfortable and tight at the back of the head.

I'm riding with a Giro too.

    That, completely.

Helmets are all about fit, end of story. I binned mine in a crash that also saw me separate my ACL and spent the time waiting for my lift home to come off hills by trying on lots of helmets in Pedal and Spoke. Fox Flux, Urge, 661 Recon etc. and still the best fit by a country mile (for me!!) was the Giro Hex. Go and try a lot and make an informed decision!

As above, Urges are not Giro shaped they are more suited to people with 'rounder' heads.

Very disappointed with the first ones I saw they are proppa cheap & nasty £35-40 max.

If you like your Xen have a look for a Giro Feature.

thats what i found with the urge helmet was tight at the back and sat on top of my head.. did not fit round my head..
the recon a seemed to be between sizes.
glad to see it not me who is a weirdo, i was gonna take my slipper and sock off to count my toes and see if i had webbed feet :P

I was lucky then, as I brought my Urge blind of the net. The trouble is that we have no stores near us that have decent stock to choose/try. When out around the country with work, I often divert off into towns to check out other bike shops, but yet to find some good big stores.

I didn't like the way the urge felt on my head, would have loved to replace my hex with another hex but due to having a massively varying amount of hair I can never get one size that fits me all the time, some times a medium is a brilliant fit, at others it's too tight and I can't get a buff on under there if I want to. 661 Recon's a good fit for me it turns out, just pop a few of the pads at the back out and suddenly I can get a buff under there and it fits nicely again.
  • I bought an Urge just before Xmas and I like it.

Was really paranoid about the fit becasue of what people were saying but side by side with my old helmet it feels more secure despite not being as easily adjustable. To be honest, I thought it'd be tighter as I have a fat head (too much hair) but took it out and it was fine even with a skull cap. It reminds me more of the helmet I have for my rallying rathe than a cycle helmet when it comes to fit.

Not sure what it'll be like in mega hot weather (it was lierally freezing when I first took mine out) but again because of other people comments I was paying extra attention I could feal the air circulating well even with the skull cap.
Beware the Judderman my dear, when the moon is fat. Sharp of tongue and spindle limbed he is, and cunning.
