Hi,
Please can you help??? I bought a cheap hardtail about 2 years ago and upgraded to a Kona Caldera (hardtail) 10 months ago. I get out on the mountains about once a week for a 4 or 5 hour ride.
During the Christmas holidays I drank a bottle of wine and ordered a Whyte E120S from Winstanley's for £1400. Due to the wine is was a bit of an impulsive purchase and I hadn't fully researched the usefulness of carbon fibre as a frame material. Since then I've heard horror stories of frames packing in after knocks! I've also read reviews saying the bike is awesome! As I'm relatively inexperienced (falling off etc), have I made a mistake ordering this bike or not!?!?!
I mainly ride XC as I haven't got the nerve for DH!

Cheers for you help!

  • Well for starters, its not a DH bike.. it should make an excellent trail bike though

But for £1400, that is a steal. Good work! RRP of £2700 from the Whyte webby?!

Carbon fibre is fine for bikes, nothing at al to worry about.

  • Well, the bike has turned up and it has a Rock Shox Revelation fitted instead of the Reba that was specced! Still seems to be 130mm or so of travel. I don't know what the difference is between these 2 shocks. Is this going to be okay do you think?
Cheers for the advice so far!
  • Which version of Rev?

Depends on which Rev..it should come with this : Fork: RockShox Reba SL 130mm with Maxle Light 20mm, Motion Control Damping, Adjustable Rebound...

If the Rev is not of similar spec even though the bike is a steal, I would try for some free goodies !

If the world was flat, I wouldn't be riding !

The Revelation isn't necessarily an up- or downgrade, just a different fork.

The Rev is normally longer travel than the Reba.

  • Took it for a 4 hour blast yesterday. Awesome bike to be fair. Its nice to a full sus bike that quite light - even if it is a XC bike. Cheers guys.
