I'm looking to find some mudguards to fit my Synapse 105. The frame and fork have the necessary eyelets, but there's no chainstay bridge. I was thinking of the SKS chromoplastic type guard, but without the chainstay bridge (and the buldge in the seat tube) I can't see how they could be fitted.

Any thoughs/suggestions (yes there's always the crud roadracer option, but 25c tyres are often quoted as being rather snug, and i have the eyelets - pity not to use 'em)

The snugness of the Cruds is down to the distance between the top of the tyre and the brake mount. My Ribble can only take 23s, I saw a Basso this weekend that clearly wouldn't have taken the Crudracers at all and some do work with 25s perfectly well. If you measure the gap (front and rear) someone should be able to advise (all I'll be able to say is if your gap is more or less than mine!).

    These are what you need.

I have used this on my Giant Rapid which does not have a chainstay bridge.
They come with an adapter/bridge which you install somewhere around the intersection of the chainstay and seat-tube to form a chainstay bridge.

For the Synapse you would want the '700 X 20-26 Black Ttrf7020b7' which is the slimmest one, for tyres up to 26c.
  • Thanks for that tonye_n, i'll try and check those out - nothing on the link about the chainstay adaptor so i'll try the LBS and see what i can find out.

The link does not mention it.
The adaptor defo included in the package as standard.
It's regarded as art of the included fixings.

I had some cruds on some 28's without any rubbing, and they are currently on some 25's with no issues at all :)
