Update of previous posting with improved wheels and saddle. (I've left a picture of what it was before for comparison.)
I started with an ugly @rsed Pinnacle (blinded by the sale prioce I think) with welds by a blind parkinsons victim, after several upgrades to that and then new frame I end up with the following:
Ribble Sportive Bianco frame and fork.
Shimano 105 gears.
Shimano 105 crankset.
Planet X Ultra Light CNC brakes.
Provibe 7s seat post.
Provibe 7s stem.
Specialised Romin saddle.
Pro compact bars.
Exustar pedals.
Shimano RS80 wheels
Continental Gatorskin tires.
Karbonzone bottle cages.
Weight of everything including pedals, computer and bottle cages is 7.82 kg.

Many thanks to all bike radar posts that supplied advice etc in decision making process.
Not sure whether the stem suits the bike now it's on there.
Love it to bits, devil to keep clean though!!!!

  • I don't know a lot about bikes so I can't pass comment on the spec but that looks awesome.

Seriously love the shape of that frame.

Prepare yourself for some ignorant wankers moaning about the number of spacers, or the upturned stem, or the stem not being long enough. I don't understand why people can't just STFU and say 'Nice Bike'!

    I like it. Nice :)
  • Frame is one or two sizes too small but NICE BIKE

Let us know how you get on with the exustar pedals, supposed to be as good as but cheaper than Look.

    Enjoy it!

  • I've not tried Look pedals, moved to these from Shimano SPD, find them more comfortable, and easier to clip in and out.
Not so easy to walk on because of the bigger cleat, also already note that the cleat is wearing already from just short walks and stepping off bike. Nothing to worry about but obviously not going to be long wearing.

Thanks for comments, I'm still a beginner to road cycling, so not keen on cutting stem any further until I am sure I am in the right riding position. Heart was in my mouth just cutting the first inch off!

The Exustar Pedals are pretty good pedals, they're are light and when new the bearings are pretty smooth. The bearing seals are crap though and let a lot of crud in meaning the pedals don't return to the En garde position, which makes clipping in a PITA. Then you have to service them which is also a PITA. I may have got unlucky though as only the left hand side pedal does it.

Thats a nice bike, the only thing that I think lets down some of the ribble bikes, is the logos themselves, they look a bit cheap.
  • Nice bike. I got my Exustar's of ebay from a shop that were slling them for £29, I like them and no problems with the seals so far

One bit of advice though, with that steerer length it'd be advisable not to have the stem at the very top due to the clamping stress for one and the fact that you are flexing the end of the steerer, it can break the steerer.
Just try knocking it down even 5mm.

  • Re steerer, done, there was a small spacer on the top, now has a much bigger one, I will make sure it suits my riding poistion before taking the hacksaw to it though. Thanks for the advice!

  • I like that bike! Nice clean & simple.
  • updated version, with new wheels and small bits, still not sure it's finished, but it's bigger budget items next.
