Is there a standard array of tyres that fit a certain size mtb rim or could peeps let me know how skinny they have gone on their rims so I can try and find what width rims they have.

Let me explain

Im currently riding around on a GT Outpost 2007 (I know)

Looking at investing in a new steed and want to turn this one into a road trainer. Looking at getting a rigid fork and some skinnier tyres. Im currently looking at some Continental Sport Contact tyres which they claim can be used to sport tune your mtb for the road. The max width they come in is 1.6"

Now the GT being such a top specced monster (tounge firmly in cheek here), they decided to keep the spec/brand of the rim a secret no markings on the rims themselves and the web sites spec is Alloy ATB rims. So other than measuring them ive got no way of knowing what can go on them. Or am I being a complete numpty and pretty much any 26" tyre will fit on an mtb rim.

any halp appreciated

    Pretty much any tyre yes.

You may struggle with inchers or something over 2.3" but that's about it.

I would guess your rims would be between 17mm & 20mm internal width, so 1.25 to about 2.0 would be fine!
