sore arse on climbs - which undershorts?

My backside can get very painful on longish climbs. I'm generally ok the rest of the time, so think my sadlle is probably ok? (standard specialized saddle that came with the 2008 Rockhopper).
I currently wear the standard Endura Humvee undershorts. I was thinking of upgrading to some better quality lycra shorts to wear under my baggies (maybe something like Gore Power shorts). Any recommendations? Will they be too hot under baggies?
Any other advice for this problem?

Yes, the humvees have a padded liner which is pretty good. But I was thinking of getting some better lycra shorts in the hope that these may be better and aleviate the pain when climbing.0

forget liners. Quality shorts are a must. Assos extremely expensive but are good, however found Giordana Tenax half the price and more comfy than Assos. Anyway now I only wear club kit as the shorts are the best I have ever ridden, better than assos/Giordana, our club uses MSTina kit with the gel inserts which are superbly comfy, try also to wear a size smaller than you think you need, this ensure the insert stays put when riding.Team4Luke supports Cardiac Risk in the Young0

Maybe your asrse needs to toughen up or your saddle is the issue?0 -

Probably best to just get rid of the baggy shorts and wear the lycra ones, then you wont get to hot.0 -
Thanks - will look at Assos and Giordan.
Can't get away with lycra only at my age / shape so will be sticking with the baggies on top I think0 -
I never got on with the spesh saddles and tried a few others until I found one that I can ride all day in with no problems. They were the charge spoon and the fizik gobi. I now have a gobi on both bikes thanks to someone wanting to swap their white gobi for a charge spoon which I was happy to do. I use either an old cheap Endura 6panel liner or, a dhb pair I got from wiggle in the sale, under baggy shorts and both feel fine on 4-6 hour rides with these saddles
Oh, and it may be worth checking your saddle position too in case it's pointing up/down too much0 -
finding a saddle you get on with will benefit you more than paded liner...
it's a very personal thing though whats good for one wont be good for another, charge spoon is a cheap but decent saddle i got on with, also have a gobi, and a few wtb pure v saddles...
i never wear padded shorts and dont have any problems...www.bearbackbiking.com

Not sure why you get sore on climbs and not on the level really, I either am comfortable or am not!
Charge Spoon for me, cyclesurgery had an offer on recently, cro-mo rails for less than £20, fetching suede as well! I have one spoon on my commuter (cotton sports shorts and regular kecks) and one on my MTB (Altura baggies and matching padded liner)

Or try a Madison Flux - same as the Charge Spoon just a tad cheaper.2011 Carrera Fury
