hi

at some stage i'm going to have to change my (very twisted) rear mech.

i know the easiest thing to do would be to buy another X7, but to satisfy my curiosity is there a different/ better mech that i could go for instead?

cheers

p.s CRC had the X7 at £44 in December, it's now £49.99 - January Sales ????? :?

Not much and a few grams saving. May last longer if you don't bash it. About it.

    There is an X5 now.

More money = less weight and better tolerances.

    so x5 not as good/expensive as x7

    x7 not as good/ expensive as x9

    x9 not as good/ expensive as x0

also if i changed the mech, would i need to change the hanger???

    thanks

X5 might be the same as your X7.

Why it is not hanger specific just frame.

I found that my X7 wore out really quickly (the mounting bolt pivot), the replacement X9 seems to be lasting longer.

that's interesting, what bike was it on? - not that it matters of course, just wondering if it was the same as mine?

It's on my 2008 Boardman pro hardtail.

The bike came with an X0 derailleur which was still ok when I took it off last January (I converted to 10sp with a double c/set). The X7 derailleur lasted about 6 months and the ally wore out around the pivot bolt, due to grit and stuff getting in there I suppose?

The replacement X9 seems to be holding up ok so far.

from my experience x9 shifts better than x 7 lasts longer. xo shifts better than x9 and mine lasted longer the shift is clean and crisp compared to x7,
this was on a 9 speed mech though..

I like SRAM, I have it on 2 road bikes (Rival group sets, which I really like), and on my MTB (9sp X0/X9, and now 10sp X7/X9 mix).

My X7 chainset is ok as are the shifters, but I wouldn't buy any more X7 derailluers as they seem to be made of chocolate!
