edited January 2012 in Road buying advice
I am going to be riding the L'ETAPE DU TOUR 2012 act 2 later this year. I have been thinking of buying some new wheels for a while and think now be a good time and am asking for advice on suitable set also I will need to change the gear setup as I am using a standard crank at the moment.

The Bike is a moda Stretto with american classic 420 wheels and sram force 53/39T crank.

Maybe the wheels are ok but I would like some advice on this.

Many thanks in advance..

I posted a thread last week titled 'Which climbing wheels?'

It's probably on the next page. Read it.

Expensive shorts are likely the best upgrade ...

There's nothing wrong with your wheels, but you might want to rethink the 39 ring. Depends on how strong you are.

If you dont climb well I'd just go for a compact chainring.

And I'd save the money on wheels and spend it on a long weekend in the Alps riding some of the climbs you will be doing. That'll focus your mind on training and give you a better etape time than just new kit will.

Thats the kind of advice I wanted. The american classics do seem to be a very good set of wheel and so far I have no problems with them but the crank size does bother me a bit but I have been using it on some big hills around westerham Kent for a while now.
