The girlfriend is keen to join this 'passtime' of ours, so i'm looking for any recommendations, and/or pointers to a bargain please:

5' 10" with 33" inside leg (so women's specific not really necessary?)
105 or equivalent quality/price groupset
Carbon, preferably Italian, both simply for pose/bling value TBH!

Budget around £ 1200-1500 tops, 2011 or even 2010 models not a problem, and curved top tubes "look nice"

Cheers
Andy
2011 Bianchi D2 Cavaria in celeste (of course!)
2011 Enigma Echo 57cm in naked Ti
2009 Orange G2 19" in, erm orange

Sounds like a Bianchi would fit the bill. (Italian in name, not in manufacture...)

Agreed. An Infinito would probably be a good place to start.

That's a nice sum for someone who may decide she hates it after a couple of rides.

I'd look at something like the mid range boardmans - saving £500 or so there and put that towards winter kit as that's going to add up if she's wanting to ride any time soon. If she gets cold she won't be keen on riding again.
  • Ribble Sportive Bianco, curved top tube, you can specify spec on bikebuilder and you can even have pink handlebar tape!!
It does get a good review on here.
  • Get a 2011 Cannondale supersix/105 for £1350 and a Liquigas jersey for the Italian bit.
Available in various places including http://www.drakescycles.co.uk
If suffer we must, let's suffer on the heights. (Victor Hugo).

I'd go for the Synapse over the super six unless she plans on racing :?:

54 sounds like the right size.

The girls do love a Bianchi though

Thanks for the answers everyone - fair comment Cougie, but if she doesn't take to it it'll be flog her on and take a bath for a few hundred quid

Went with a 2011 model Bianchi Sempre 105 - red and black fitted the colour requirement, and got a decent deal at Tredz anyway :D
