For most of the time, Labour welfare spending in the 90s and 2000s was lower than Tory welfare spending in the 1980s and 90s.

I'm not saying that this is all down to Labour's amazingly wonderful economic policy, but the idea that Labour spawned some sort of massive benefits culture is simply not true.
