Hi there,

Contemplating buying a new pair of dedicated shoes for downhill as the countless pairs of skate shoes m wearing are just getting wrecked! Was looking at purchasing the Shimano AM41s...has anyone got any experience of these? Are there any better pairs out there? Budget I have in mind is around the 80 pound mark. Many thanks in advance

5:10 for flats, Shimano for SPD.
5:10's are incredibly grippy but don't expect them to last more than a year
  • I use FiveTen Impact Low for the summer & AM41's for this time of year. CRC currently have AM41's for £59.99 which is a steal.

If I had to choose one pair, the AM41's would win by a nose.

AM41s. I find they have plenty of grip, sometimes too much at times, they're a reasonable price and are holding up well, very impressed with how nice and dry my feet have stayed this winter too.
  • 5:10'S are too expensive... made of cardboard too from what I've heard. And they soak up tonnes of water and weigh a tonne. Plus, they look like 'special' shoes.

I've had my etnies for 4 years now and they're perfect... they're all i've worn on my feet since buying them for £15 in TK Maxx and they're still going strong!

Had mine for a full year now, they have been through hell and back and still perfect. Cant say iv ever had waterlogged shoes  Plus they are not a fashion statement, who cares what they look like as long as they work which they do thats all that matters to me and if your worried about weight of 5:10 shoes well god help you..........

Expect 5:10s to come down in price over the next 12 months, i had an email from Jon who's the head of marketing explaining one of the main reasons they have sold a chunk of the company to Adidas is so they can get there products into a wider range of shops rather than just the specialist bike/climbing shops. He also went on to say that the production costs can be reduced meaning a lower retail price. I'm gonna get a pair of 5:10 but am gonna wait until the weather clears up a bit as i don't want them trashed before the good weather arrives, until then i'll just stay in hibernation
What if your dreams and fears existed in the same place? What if to get to heaven, you had to brave hell? What if everything you've ever wanted cost you everything you've ever achieved? Would you still go there?
