Hi
Ive been doing up my hardrock fora few years now, and its time to go full sus. Ill be moving my bits over as they are pretty good, got my 100mm fox up front so I am looking for a little advice really. I have found 3 frames that look decent, and about the right sort of price, no more than a grand at 100mm travel

Any thoughts on which is best would be good, also any other ideas? Something a bit unusuall would be cool
Cheers

Your last link is confused, and you need to check what bits will move over, many might not fit.I don't do smileys.

Sorted last link. I've only been into this biking lark a few years so I don't know much but I fancy having a bash at building my own bike.
What sort of things do I specifically need to look at when selecting a frame then? Im guessing the major parts to check out are the cranks, fork and the gear set. What dimensions or numbers ect do I specifically need to have a look at to make sure my bits will fit?0 -
i had a santacruz heckler for 4 year the superlights big brother if you like, that bike was amzing if the superlight rides anything like the heckler then it will be an amazing bike. they both share the same singlepivot design..
rear axel size ie 135x10
bb shell 68 or 73
seat tube diameter ??? will effect the diameter of the seattube and possably the front mech.
head tube 1/18 44mm tapered 1.5. could use a reducer headset to reduce headset to take a 1/18 fork if needed.
length of steerer tube on the forks to could be a problem..
these are just a few off the top of my head.
i swapped most of the bits from my heckler to my butcher,.. with out any issues,
and parts from my pace to my chromag.... with out any issues..www.bearbackbiking.com

Measure the steering tube of the fork and compare it to the headset tube of the new frame, the steerer might be too short. You need enough length for the headset, spacers, stem etc. Seat post size could be different, front mech size could be different, the chainstay could be longer or shorter requiring the chain length to be altered. The bottom bracket could be different.
Get a digital calliper from Amazon for about £10 as some parts will differ by .5mm so you need an accurate way to measure them.

If i take the maufacturer measurements for the head tube, and the hard rock is the same if not bigger than the new frame is that ok?
For example 19" hardrock head tube comes in at 4.72" and the large superlight head tube comes in at 4.3", would that mean I can just lift the forks with stem/bars that are currently on the hardrock and pop them onto the superlight, if I got my LBS to take that .42" difference off the steerer tube on the fork?
Sorry if I'm asking simple questions, need it in laymens terms can't afford to cock it up!0 -
you would not have to touch the forks..
if the new frame superlight for example is shorter than the spesh which you say it is you could just remove stem and bars off fork take fork out headtube and fit to new frame and use spacers to make up the difference, you can use spacers above or below the stem to lift or lower the bars to get a set up that suites you...
i would get a new headset for the new frame, remember if you do get a new headset to remove the crown race of the forks and replace it with the new one...
i had no trouble changing parts from my heckler to my butcher,, and from the pace to the chromag,, both bike required new headsets as they are 44mm tapered headtubes..
everything else just swapped over no issues... only thing i had to change on the chromag build was loose 2 spacer from the bb as it was a 73mm shell and the pace was a 68mm shell...www.bearbackbiking.com

Cheers for the info! I've done a fair bit of reading and looking at teh specs and its good news on the super light and the hen hei, seat post, bottom bracket ect are all good aswell as the forks, I am leaning towards the superlight at the moment though.
Anyone got any other suggestions for a shorter travel full sus frame that I have missed on my search? Something a little unusual would be good to have a look at0 -
nobody got any suggestions or recomendations?0
