I have just got a cheapish turbo for the wife, ( yes I know the old ones are the best, stop digging) and any inclement weather.
Rather than f*rt around with the rear wheel have decided to use an old 10 speed rear, and just change the wheel, but the current bike is an 8 spd cassette and the wheel 10 spd. Will there be any problem or extras needed ?.

You indexing will be out, so unless your Mrs isn't planning on changing gears it'll be a pain and likely to be noisy / constantly jumping too.

Can't you replace the cassette on the old wheel for an eight speed one?

At moment there is no cassette on old wheel but it used to have a ten spd on it. I've bought an 8 spd to go on it what I needed to know was would the hub and cassette go together. Sorry for confusion.

assuming it's a shimano hyperglide/compatible hub, it should be ok...

if the 10-speed cassette had a 1mm spacer between it and the hub, remove it, the 8-speed cassette should fit without it

Thank you sungod that's what I hoped, but as I am not technical I had my LBS change the cassette over about 6 months back and then put that cassette onto my new wheels. But as you say the spacer will/may not be needed, I'll probably leave it to the LBS - at least I wont have to buy a new wheel.
