So Mrs OB has decided to get one (not sure this is a good idea, don't see it getting used by her that much to be honest, but if i'm spending £1200 on a new bike I can't really argue how she spends her money can I?)

Anyway, we went to John Lewis and tried a few out in the sports dept and there were clearly differences between the cheaper (£500) and the more expensive (£1100) in terms of smoothness of motion. I know that much is to do with flywheel weight but any other advice on buying one? (other than don't )

I picked one up from a work colleague for free earlier this year. Whilst it is a cheap and cheerful one, still has calories burined, distance and countdown timer.

Used pretty much every day this month, 40 mins a session. Its not as much fun as getting out on the bike but been useful at keeping the weight off.

Not sure how accurate the calories are but seeing them clock up is a great motivator.
