Evening all

Anyone been to Cannock today ? What's the Monkey Trail like ?

Weather conditions look set to improve tomorrow, but its tanked it down all day, so wondering if its a bit of a bog...

Cheers

Isn't cannock always muddy unless there's a drought?

That bits been there a while, not sure it's an official bit really, I know there's a sign post next to it but I'm fairly sure there's still signs on the fireroad round it too. Never used to be that bad but it's really gotten worse over the last few months, probably with the weather and I think it's been seeing more and more traffic.

No, its usually bone dry/fairly dry the times I've been there even after a good trickle of rain.

Have they done some work to the tracks then? Must admit, its about a year since i've been, but out of the numerous times I went, think it was only not muddy once and that was in the middle of the summer. Remember that good day we had last year :D

Thought I'd piggy back this thread.

Has anyone been up Cannock in the last couple of days? Me and a mate have a cheeky day off on friday and fancy a blast round. Don't mind a bit of mud and dirt but don't know if I can be bothered to drive up if it's in a state.

    Thanks in advance

There are a couple of tiny bits where it's a real bog, but like less than 1% of the trail, to be honest it's not too bad really, we've been riding on kenda SB8s fine.

You're bike will need a good clean afterwards though.

    Cool

Nothing new then, seem to spend half my life cleaning the thing ;-)

Better get a few hours on the exercise bike before Friday then, haven't done any riding since before Christmas and have put on the obligatory Christmas lumber!

There as some huge puddles after the Tackeroo descent. Enough to fill my Sealskinz.
We started early in the morning and the northshore sections were still very very greasy too.

    Anyone been down today?

Thinking about the monkey at the weekend but I've only been offroad once in about the last 6 months and seeing the amount of frozen water there was on the Dog last weekend it could be wet enough to give me all sorts of grief.

Also I don't really want to get covered in shoot, the wife would kill me.

Planning to go over the wekend. Any views on whether I should keep my Mud X tyres on or switch them over to High Rollers?

After today, it's gonna be wet. But cannock wet so more puddles and wet sand than mud most of the time. Rocks will be slippy.

I'd go with the High Rollers, if it was my choice. Not enough clag and to much cobbley stuff to justify the Muds.

Yeah learnt a valuable lesson today, I tried to avoid a puddle and hit a tree stump. Won't be doing that again any time soon.
