What to buy for £1k, Cycle scheme

Hi,

I've enrolled in my employers bike to work scheme through cyclescheme.co.uk, halfords seem to be the only big retailer missing - evans etc.. are on there, I'm after a hard tail, 6"1 tall, any guidance as to what to look for would be good, I'm looking at a small amount of road, bit of tow path & some woods / trails.

Go to an Evans etc, look at, squeeze, fondle and sit on some, see what you like and take it from there.
