shimano ultegra 6700 lever reach adjust

I'm considering purchasing a bike with an ultegra groupset, but I'm concerned about the reach distance to the brake levers as I find tiagra levers too far away than I would like when I'm on the drops.
I've heard that you can adjust the lever reach using shims?
Does anyone know if this is true? Do you have to buy the shims separately?

Mike, im running 6700 and Yes you need to use the Shims, you can get 2 differant sizes and you do need to buy um as they dont come with the levers.
Ive seen them on ebay, but any Shimano stockist should be able to get um for ya. Easy to fit as well.

My Ultegra levers came with shims.0

Thanks RB.
Having to buy shims specially seems a faff! The new dura ace and the sram levers are adjustable via a screw I think, which seems much more user friendly. I'll see whether the bike I'm getting comes with them.0 -
I had shims come with the bike, so I guess whoever you buy it from *should* pass them to you after the build. Mine were in a packet with all the documentation, reflectors etc0

The do come with the levers, but most bike shops decide, on your behalf, that you don't need them, and throw them away. Ask, and they shall be given! (or should be).0
