Hey everybody,
I am after a new set of wheels for this coming year that will be good enough for training, racing, and sportives and will be durable enough to swap from bike to bike as i upgrade and will last a "resonably" long time. Im 18 weighing in at 65ish kgs, i do alot of riding like this year the road bikes had about 3000+ miles on it. in the next year i want to start racing properly but dont want to be faffing around with this whole training and race wheel stuff. ive currently got a stock allez sport with upgraded tyres on and ive got upto about £400 to spend but ideally im looking a fair bit lower, what sort of diffrence in ride durabily and quality would you expect, and what real world diffrences would they make if i spent say £150, £200, £300, £400? would spending say £150ish on a set of new wheels make a big diffrence to what i have as stock?
Thanks alot for reading, hope you can help
Ben

Excellight rims on Ultegra hubs using Sapim Laser spokes from wheelsmith.co.uk will give you a great all round, tough ,light wheel for your money. Ride will be smoother, less flex in the wheel will mean more of your effort getting through and most importantly they'll stay true and reliable but easy to fix if you do have any problems.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Now now, much more likely that it's Dave himself than a Hinde lover...
If you can spend up to £400 but would rather spend less then I'd go for something around the £300 mark. If you want them to last then you can do a lot worse than the Ultegra hubs / Ambrosio combination (heavy but they'll be very stiff and very durable). For factory builts Shimano RS80's are nice but not all that stiff (light though and at your weight should be stiff enough unless you have a massive sprint and rock the bike a lot).
I got tired of factory wheels falling apart on me and started building wheels for myself recently so now train on Open Pro's with an Ultegra rear hub (32 hole) and DA front (28 hole) which although they weigh 1700g are some of the best wheels I've had (ask me again in a year).0 -
cant recommend fulcram racing 3s highly enoughBMC TM01 - FCN 0

1- no, my friend bought some MTB wheels from him that didn't last the first ride, the spokes collapsed. He refused to even repair them and told my mate to eff off. That is why I haven't.
2- irrelevant, but no.
3- his shop is local, I went in about 3 years ago, asked some questions when I wanted some new wheels. Was met with little help and was in fact spoken to very rudely. Never been in since.Insta: ATEnduranceCoaching

I've got a set of Dave Hinde wheels and they have been excellent - and still going strong after many years. I know someone else who also gets his wheels built at his shop and they are very pleased too.
Quite clearly he has a reputation for poor customer service but he sure puts together exceelent wheels. If you haven't tried them or dealt with him perhaps you shouldn't slag him off.0 -

Thanks for all the replys one and all, hope you all had a good xmas and a full year of riding to follow!
Am quite tempted by the model Bs i must say, and if i do choose a set sub £200 new then im sure it will probably be them! i think i might wait for a little while and wait for a second hand set, new year new wheels and bikes for many in the local club and i have a few friends who race for teams that might have last years old "trianing wheel set" going cheapish that would be more than adiquite!
thanks again guys!...and girls0 -
+1 for the planet x B's.0
