Enjoy the finest cycling in the Peak District.
The short route is centred around the Ambergate area and provides a taste of what the Peak has to offer.
The mid and long distance routes share the shorter route before exploring more of the Peak's diversity.
All routes are hilly, though not gratuitously so, in keeping with the areas topography.
There are flat moorland sections, steep/short and longer/gentler climbs, and of course fabulous descents.
All crafted from an intimate and obsessional knowledge of the Peak.
> Short Route: 47 miles – 75 km

I would definitey be up for that. I've booked up the Peak 100 for April so it would be nice to be able to aim for the longer ride. Also I've been looking at joining a cycling club and wondered how to go about joining Beeston. I'm just down the road in Long Eaton and ridden the other way past your crowd a few times on a Thursday (sadly its usually on my way to work!). Any chance I can join your boys for a ride?0

Hey good to hear from you, just log on: > Website: http://www.beeston.cc
Just go through the online reg, we have changed the website and have few teething problems on the final processing of new members, so bare with us on that.
Also if you spot rides on the web that suits you just tag along new faces are very welcome.
Riding is what it is all about.

Before you go off joining the wrong club, Beeston currently has two clubs and it is the famous one (Beeston Road Club) which Paul Smith (the designer) and Sid Standard were members of, that you pass on the way through Long Eaton on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
Details of the club can be found on http://www.beestonrc.co.uk and membership is only £10!0 -
I sense a little rivalry! How do I know which 1 to join? Thanks guys will have a look and looking forward to joining you for a ride!0

There is friendly rivalry between the two clubs, however I did not necessarily want you to join the one initially advertised here to discover that it was the other which organised the Tuesday and Thursday evening chain gangs.
There is also a general view that these two clubs will eventually merge.0 -
Sounds good. Its also good to have a choice. If its not going to upset people too much I'll probably give them both a go. Thanks everyone for being so supportive and welcoming.0
-
Hey there is no rivalry at all. We do actually work together on occasion such as supporting BRC to host two annual CycloCross events at Bramcote Park. The initial post is to promote the sportive on June the 24th and not which club is the wrong club. Hopefully see you at the sportive or on one of our rides.0
-
Sorry but the elephant in the room question whenever Beeston CC or RC is raised locally is why does a town as small as Beeston need two clubs?
From where I am standing there is an unhealthy emotional gap between the two clubs and it would make complete sense if the two were merged as they have down the road in Long Eaton.0 -
Why does it matter - if people want to join RC they can. if they want to join CC they can.
I don't see that the Long Eaton example is a good one - are VCLE any more active then LECC or LEP were - not that I can see they aren't.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -
Beeston> your long route is incorrectly linked on the following page...
http://rides.bunch.cc/clubs/beestoncc/s ... n_pages/17
it only shows the 77 mile route.
I did the 137 mile route last year and thought the event was well organised/signed. Would recommend to other forum users for a more low-key event.0 -

The links seem to work OK if you go directly from the event website.
Very tempted to enter this one as it even goes through my home town (might even fit in an extra food stop).
Any idea of numbers doing the long route last time out Derbygrimpeur? Were riders few and far between at the far end of the course?
111miles would be my longest ever ride, looks like the extra 34 miles (over the medium course) is through the hardest terrain, tough doing it solo I should think.Mike B

I did the longer route last year and it was longer than advertised (about 155 miles), very wet, tough and poorly attended. I think that only about five to seven riders finished it.0 -

Haha - can't believe you are sending them up the Berylberg in Lower Hartshay ! Think I'd take the advertised detour on that one.
I'll stick it on our club forum - we're fairly local so you might get some more entries from it.

Went to have a look at the "Beryberg" today and god what a dirt track, the odd lump of tarmac and horse sh1t !
Give it a miss, it really doesn't save you anytime given how careful you need to go up it (well I was on 23mm, nice wheels and tyres) and was only 7 or 8 miles out when I did it. After 80 or 100 ? No thanks !
Tom,
I get the "berg" bit but were did the beryl part come from ?25th August 2013 12hrs 37mins 52.3 seconds 238km 5500mtrs FYRM Never again.0 -
Saw some cyclists going up that way as I drove past around lunchtime. They were carefully studying a map
I went up there more by chance than intention once (blindly following my Garmin 500!)...if you were doing it at the end of the 100 then it's a tough ask.
I wimped out and did a 25TT this morning instead...maybe next yearMike B

The only time I heard of it was with reference to local rider Martin "Beryl" Burton - can't remember now why they named it after him - few years ago now it's probably only me and a couple of others who call it by that name.

you sound like a bit of a wimp to me :P
I rode up there (medium route) and just smashed it (23mm Pro3 Race tyres / Campag Eurus wheels). Took the approach that they mention with regards the cobbled classics - ride hard and you bounce over the top (riding slower gives your tyres the chance to seek out the puncture-inflicting stones). Rode most of it at approx 15mph, slowing to 10mph for the steepest section (only about 20m long). Overtaking some of the slower riders from the short route was a bit tricky, having to take the second best line when there wasn't even a best line
Thought it was an excellent inclusion, but not sure I'd fancy it on a regular basis. But it was a nice little distraction.0
