The drive on my GT aggressor elite has become intermittent, fellow riders suspect it is the cassette but i have also been told it could be the freehub.
I can replace the cassette with simular (deore) or upgrade to slx but my question is regarding the freehub, are these all standard sizes or will i need to replace it like for like?

You need the same brand as the the current hub.

    Which is a?

From your symptoms I don't think it's the cassette, it could be you just need to give it a little clean and lube, need to remove it and clean the pawls.....
