How heavy is your bike?

OK. I am a geek. I have weighed the bikes in my garage with one of those hanging scales.
GT Tempest circa 1998 14.04 Kg
Ladies Trek 4900 similar era 13.16 Kg
Cannondale Badboy 700 disc 12.18 Kg
Specialized Hotrock 20 11.37 Kg
Islabike Beinn 24 10.6 Kg
Islabike Beinn 20 small 9.39 K
Olde Pashley delivery bike 19.4 Kg. My face riding that uphill
1.5M long padlock/ chain 17.61 Kg
Looking at the above list I conclude I only really need to chain any bike to the Pashley and the combined weight should stop most people from nicking it!
The Specialized Hotrock 20 seems very heavy to me. Or is the Islabike amazingly light. 2 Kg heavier than the Islabike equivalent, it is even heavier than the 24" Islabike! 2 Kg for a small child is a huge difference.
What do your bikes weigh?
All the above bikes were weighed without any water bottles, locks or accessories attached except the GT Tempest which had a rack fitted.

  • Many previous threads on this subject... the most recent being this one

    As said on that thread:

My commuter 15.34kg (inc guards, lock & rack, but not lights) Add approx 1.9kg for panniers and 5.5kg for laptop/clothes = 22.75kg, or 50lb in old money, no wonder its hard work!

My road bike 9.82kg (inc seatbag and bits inside)

My Kona Jake weighs 16kg in commuting mode. That's with Schwalbe Marathon + fitted and including mudguards, rack, lock, lights and pump. Removing the lock, pump and lights dropped 2 kg, but the scales only weigh in 0,5kg increments as they are for weighing large pallets for shipping.
  • ooh, i'll play! :D Dahon jack, 31.4lbs (or 14.5kg-ish according to google conversions) - hardly any original bits though... And thats with rigid fork, i was riding it with a suntour duro suspension fork on for most of last year (thought i'd play enduros) that on the scale by itself is 5lbs...! Won't be putting that on again..! :D

Actually, come to think of it, that was last week, with different bars... Just put WTB dirt drops on again, will have to weight it again. Yes, i know, i need more than one bike..! :D

Commuter bike is 9.767Kg (as per my avatar) - it's based on a Carrera Gryphon frame but other than the mech hanger, nothing else is original - as I currently commute with rack, panniers (empty) guards and lights it comes in at 10.555Kg, the MTB is 11.829Kg (but doesn't do the commute) I am also setting up my Retro Gary Fisher MTB as a backup commuter and that will weigh about 14.5Kg I think.

As the quoted weight for the District is 9.16Kg that sounds optimistic......heavie bars, heavier controls, guards and lights and a saving of nearly 1.3lbs?

My commuter / cyclocross bike weighs in a a hefty 11.5Kg ish.

Road bike is around 8Kg but I intend to get this down another .5Kg with some nicer wheels in the spring

MTB is a specialized hardrock pro, about 13.5Kg
  • My commuter is listed as 12.8kg, but with rack, mudguards & accessories is probably at least a kilo heavier. Add in full water bottle + daily pannier loadout and it's probably well over 20Kg all-in

Road bike is a svelte 8.6kg and doesn't half feel like it when I switch over :D

Interesting, my dizzy in fixed mode, one caliper, Brooks, Cateye cadence speedo, bullhorns and various Ti bits weighs in at 9.05 Kg with a 58cm frame.

Wife's Felt Curbside in tiny is exactly the same.

    MiniAH's Islabike Beinn 20" is 9.4 Kg.

Just built Peugeot is 14.6 Kg with guards and hamper etc

Dr Zoidberg the crosser comes in at 10.6 Kg in full commute guise incl. guards, lights, computer etc in a 58cm frame.

Forget what my Madone weighs, but depressingly my Allez commuter, with Race Blades, PowerTap wheel etc is 22.05lbs. So with lights it's about 23. My full suspension disk equipped MTB is 19.8lbs. Something's wrong there...

Fair enough, you hadn't mentioned any other changes in your first post....weight weenies are born cynical!

Actually I was surprised that mine topped 9Kg, I'm blaming heavy track pedals and the Brooks saddle.

Are they the Sylvan track pedals? They are over 700grams* without clips and leather straps.

*Yes, I'm a closet weight weenie. I weigh every part that go's on and comes of the bike. I don'tspend silly money on even lighter pars though.

Yep, with strapless clips....just don't want to go clipless on this bike as it's my "jump on and go" town machine,

Ribble GF on Pro-Lite Luccianos comes in at 18.8lb in old money, haven't yet weighed it with the Kysriums Elites and neither have I weighed the Allez which I should be riding at the moment but have been wimping away from due to the incessant wet weather.

Unfortunately I am contributing significantly more to the combined weight and need to reduce my contribution before I really notice the weight difference between the steeds!
