Wanting more gears on a new bike..

I'm looking at getting a new summer bike, and it only comes with a standard 6700 chainset and a 12-25. As i'm going to be riding this in north wales, i'll need a few more gears instead of a 39-25 as the slowest gear. Now, what would you do to make slower gears?
Would you,
1. get a compact and keep the 12-25 on the rear?
or
2. get a wider cassette, like a 12-28?
the compact would drop the ratio from 1.56 to 1.36, and changing the cassette only would give me a ratio of the 1.39.
Both options would be free of charge, as the shop will do the change for me. So, what would you do?

Unless you're planning on racing at some point in the future, then a compact chainset is the better option IMOMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

+1 for going compact plus cassette.
I live in north Wales (in the hilly bit) and have a compact and I find that even though I cycle alot(road+mtb) I struggle on some of the steeper climbs so I've just bought a new cassette in the hope of a cheap fix!0 -
