Hi all,
I recently purchased a GIANT YUKON FX2 from Pauls Cycles (http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b4s1p1747&rs=gb&vid=6036) haven’t unboxed yet, but will do on Sat / Sun.
The bike comes with a RockShox Dart 2 100mm travel fork, what fork should I upgrade too?
RockShox Tora TK Coil Forks 2011 (http://www.allterraincycles.co.uk/product/122975.html)
RockShox Tora 302 Coil U-Turn Forks (2011) (http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/33754/RockShox_Tora_302_Coil_UTurn_Forks_2011)
I think the above two are the same
Rockshox Tora 302 Coil U-Turn Suspension Forks - 2009 - PopLock (http://www.bikeoutlet.co.uk/products/Rockshox_Tora_302_Coil_U_Turn_Suspension_Forks_2009_PopLock-847-50.html / http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/10099/Rockshox_Tora_302_Coil_UTurn_PopLoc_Forks_2009)
Marzocchi Marathon R Suspension Fork (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/marzocchi-marat ... sion-fork/)
RockShox Tora 302 Coil U-Turn Forks (2011) (http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/33754/RockShox_Tora_302_Coil_UTurn_Forks_2011)
Marzocchi 44 TST2 Air Forks (2011) (http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/33880/Marzocchi_44_TST2_Air_Forks_2011)
Marzocchi 44 RLO 2012 Forks (http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/45987/Marzocchi_44_RLO_2012_Forks)
Marzocchi Marathon LR 2012 Forks (http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/46582/Marzocchi_Marathon_LR_2012_Forks)
What's better PopLoc / PushLoc? And what does all this Loc / TurnKey stuff do?
Also the bike did not come with pedals is that right? If so recommend some pedals please (for normal footwear i.e. boots "winter", boat shoes in summer "only wear those shoes for road and a flat mud foot path").

The fork manufacturers website explains what the features do. How much do you weigh, and how hard do you intnd the ride?
The pedals are fine for the money.0 -
Have a look on On One for forks Recon Silver coils for under £100 and Recon Gold Single Air for about £180.I don't do smileys.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I'm 61kg / 9.6stone.
I live in the country side and just to get to the train station I have to go off-road. I will be on road, mud footpath, stone and gravel byway, going through fields, and will occasionally go to the local forest for fun which has a river, stream, lots of big hills, and ditches; so a bit of everything.
P.S. I unboxed the bike a couple of hours ago and found some pedals, but I think I will buy the ones mentioned above, those pedals look decent and a lot more grip.GIANT YUKON FX2 - http://goo.gl/xtIfv.0 -

Hi, thanks for the reply.
The 'RockShox Recon Gold TK Solo Air 100mm Fork With Poplock' looks good.
Thanks for making me aware of that website too, look’s like a decent shop.GIANT YUKON FX2 - http://goo.gl/xtIfv.0 -

Hi,
yeh I looked at those and the V12, I like how you can change the pins and put in better ones, but I think the ones I mentioned above are better; they look far more gippy.GIANT YUKON FX2 - http://goo.gl/xtIfv.0 -
Go for the Recon RL Solo Air for a tenner more.
I use both the V8 copies and the caged pedals - prefer the latter. Tougher cage.0 -
Just looking at forks.
So what fork should I buy???
I’m thinking the 'RockShox Recon Gold TK Solo Air 100mm' is probably the best choice?
I want to buy a fork by end of tomorrow. Really badly want to get this bike on the road, have a bit of fun on it before I have to go back to work and University in mid Jan; then I wont have any time for fun , just commuting.GIANT YUKON FX2 - http://goo.gl/xtIfv.0 -
For less than £200 the Recon RL as above - the improved Motion Control damper works quite a bit better.
£190 at OnOne.0 -

£190 at OnOne.

hmm sounds just the same really as the Gold TK?
plus black out of stock until Jan.GIANT YUKON FX2 - http://goo.gl/xtIfv.0 -
As I said, the Motion Control damper is better - it has fully adjustable low speed compression damping which you can adjust from fully open, to fully locked, or anywhere in between. This means you can dial in to your preference. Also much better made, with a better blowoff valve, and doesn't spike on big hits. Well worth the extra.0

Ok, Thanks for the reply.
Just need to found a seller with the fork in stock, found a guy selling the folk on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RockShox-Recon-Gold-RL-Suspension-Forks-inc-Poploc-BLACK-/270845484156?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item3f0fa61c7c, but I'm not paying that price, I'll send him a message see if he will negotiate.GIANT YUKON FX2 - http://goo.gl/xtIfv.0 -
Merlin do them too, 12% off the listed price in the sale.0

ah yeh been there "out of stock".GIANT YUKON FX2 - http://goo.gl/xtIfv.0 -
So...
I don’t fancy spending £200 for the 'Recon Gold folk', plus if I did spend that sum of money, I'll be short of money for a few weeks, not something I fancy risking.
So found a 'Marzocchi 44 RLO 26 RC 2010' for £155 on Chain Reaction Cycles, and a 'RockShox Tora TK' for £124.95 on eBay. Those two seem the best I can afford.
Question, the 'Marzocchi 44 RLO 26 RC 2010' comes in two variants 100mm / 120mm; if I was to get the 120mm, would the shock at the back which is 100mm be ok? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=75533

ha lol unbelievable, just found this : http://www.bikeafterthis.com/?p=112
This Finnish guy has the same bike as me, with the fork I’m considering installed (120mm); looking at his blog further his upgraded his shock from the one that came with the bike to a FOX.GIANT YUKON FX2 - http://goo.gl/xtIfv.0 -

dont know.
I like your Trance, nice. I added you as a contact on Flickr; nice photos, those trails look great .
P.S. not got any photos up on my account, but will do soon. I'm going to get myself a Digital Camera in 2/4 weeks; then I be taking photos like a mad man lol, esp. any trails I visit.GIANT YUKON FX2 - http://goo.gl/xtIfv.0 -
The Yukon is an entry level full susser - is a bit heavier than a Trance and uses a different suspension system.
The 44 RC is a very good price at the minute, nice fork.0 -

ah cool, good. When I was down at my local bike store, the guy in there reckons I would be ok with a 120mm, but the head would be higher up.GIANT YUKON FX2 - http://goo.gl/xtIfv.0 -
True, 120mm max really. Will make the bike a little more stable.0

supersonic wrote:True, 120mm max really. Will make the bike a little more stable.
ah really, GOOD; just seems incompatible to have a 120mm at front and a 100mm at back. But had two people now tell me it shouldn’t be a problem, so will probably buy the 120mm tonight.
I will most likely need to cut the Steerer down a bit, but that’s no problem, I got the tools to do that, should only take 10mins.
Also I just noticed on your 'Mongoose Otero' you got the pedals I want, they look great, not sure if I buy them tonight or leave them for a few weeks.GIANT YUKON FX2 - http://goo.gl/xtIfv.0 -
That Mongoose was £400! has 130mm front, and 65-115mm bacjk, so goes to show that matched travel is not a neccessity.0
