Planning a ride on the 27th - anyone care to suggest a decent cafe within 40 miles of Derby somewhere in the Derbyshire/Staffs peak. I know a fair few but fancy trying a new destination - if you know it's likely to be open on the 27th that'd be even better !

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

It's kind of near the Peaks. On the way so to speak, but the best proper cafe you will ever visit. Seriously.

Thanks, yes I know the SaltBox - probably a bit close for this ride as planning to stop after about 40 miles - agree it's a good cafe though. Amazing it's survived the new bypass being built - must get a lot of trade on reputation.

Usual suspects for me are places like Grindleford Station, Pool Cafe at Hathersage, the post office at Hartington, the one at Monyash.

Woodbine at Hope is my favourite, only closed on Boxing Day - I asked on Wednesday.

Cauldwell Mill at Rowsley also good, http://caudwellsmillcraftcentre.co.uk/Thecafe.htm

as is the cafe at Flagg, http://www.edgeclosefarmtearooms.net/

Old Smithy is the one at Monyash.

Ooh not tried that - normally go to the Poole cafe in Hathersage - whereabouts is ELliots ?

Might go to the Woodbine then if it's definitely open - not been in there often though I was a couple of weeks ago. You not coming out Nev ?
