Brake rotor problem after fitting new wheels

I have just fitted some new hope evo 2 hubs to my lapierre spicy 916 and when I tested them the rear brakes were catching on the inside of the rotor quite badly, so I undid the tops bolts to move the calliper out a bit to centre the calliper and rotor, I have moved the calliper as far as it will go but it's still not quite enough although it's far better, it's maybe 1mm out still so it's still very slightly rubbing on the inner side, so what can I do ?, is it ok to add a shim to the mount bolts that hold the mount to the carbon frame ?

push the pistons home and start the set up again.

I have tried this and there still is rubbing on the inside of the rotor?, I will try again but if you look at the rotor with no pads in the callipers you can see that its not quite centere and I have no adjustment left on the mounts for the direction I need.

If it is IS mount you can shim the piston with shim washers

If it is Post Mount you dont need shims.

Its post mount so you dont need shims but the advice in the hope video still applies

If I don't need shims how do I make it fit ?there is no more adjustment left in the top bolts ?, the rotor doesn't run centrally in the calliper ?

  • Here ya go:

Btw, that's a very poor picture. You need to take the shot like you were eyeing the rotor inbetween the slot of the caliper - that would convey more info to potential helpers.

sorry the picture was purely to show the type of mount, thanks anyway, so its OK to put shims there ?

  • Yes, it's perfectly OK to put the shims in the places as advised.

The ghetto way to make shims is just to cut some small "U" shapes out of a coke (other beverages are available) can with a pair of scissors - if you can't find or don't have any shims at hand, that is.
  • You don't want to put shims where suggested if it makes the braket rub the rotor.

I had exactly the same problem with a rear EVO hub, I had to shim the caliper out.

The where bought as direct replacment for a set of PRO2s that didn't need shimming!

There are two places you can shim, either behind the adaptor or behind the rotor, providing you use the right shims you won't have a problem.

Not sure what Chunkers means, you either move the rotor closer to the caliper or the caliper closer to the rotor, use the wrong shims and it will rub either way?

I just used a couple of washers I had lying around.

I have put a couple of old washers and all seems good, seems odd that they are a few mm off !?

Yes that's what I thought, mine where around 0.5mm out.

I am not sure on the actual measurement but the difference between the evo2's and my old Mavic's was enough to make them catch on the calipers without any pads in :?:
