The ice has lifted and ....

I finally got out on the roadie today and on my usual routes.
Must be about 2 weeks of constant ice and it lifted last night.
First mile and it was like the bike was still on ice, 30 mins and that sick feeling appeared ---Just like a total beginner again.
45 mins and the power in the legs started to come through and then I started flying again.
2 weeks rest and I blasted the whole route with my fastest time.
Hopefully the weather stays nice and I get a few good miles over xmas.
15 mins on the turbo trainer is the same time as 2 hours on the road.
Time drags on the tt and it just zips by on the road.
If you use a TT, you will know what I mean.

Was lovely weather today too.
Sunny, 13degrees out (according to my garmin) and a very gentle breeze.
did a fairly leisurely 42 miles, and did a few of the larger hill climbs around me. Really enjoyed it today. Also looked at a new bike for the summer.0 -
A bit frosty at the start of the day and stayed cold all day.
Roads were clean and mainly car free today.
First 20 mins were spent trying to keep fingers from freezing.
They get cold and tingly and then numb, then turned into the sun and out of the breeze and they warmed up nicely.
1 1/2 hours today and again it was a good fun run on a new route, very smooth road for a change thanks to another roadie for the info.
Hopefully a good day tomorrow as I will have more time to do a decent run.

Alyth/Coupar Angus to Glamis/Kirriemuir area is a nice smooth road area.
Bike has come back clean for a change.
Usual route is a mud zone.
Sidlaw route has become really bad for pot holes and blob on top of blob repairs.0 -
I've done a wee bit of that area as well. I remember a long hard slog from Kirriemuir to Blairgowrie with a strong headwind. Very open with little shelter.0

Great country road with superb views.
Blairgowrie to Braemar and Ballater is a 50 mile run.
Will do this in the spring on the roadie.0 -
I've never made it to Braemar on the bike yet. Aboyne has been about my stretch from Aberdeen. I stayed on a campsite just off the A90, not far from Stracathro which gave a base for exploring Kirrie / Alyth kind of direction.0

There are some great roads around here, even in the Sidlaws. One of my favourites is the stretch between Abernyte and Balbeggie (the B953) and with the ice gone I finally managed to get out again yesterday. It's a shame about the amount of blasted wind though. Good to see more Dundee based folks here0
