Hi all after my dog Colin has just eaten my Oakleys I need to buy a new pair. I did have some gascans but found the frame too thick for when glancing over the shoulder there was quite a blind spot. Any recomendations? I think the jawbones look interesting if not a bit quirky? Anyone got any secondhand they want to sell as here in Mallorca they are seriously expensive. Im back for xmas in Janurary and could get a pair in the uk. Anyone got any jawbones they want to sell? or any other recomendations?
thanks

Get some dodgy Chinese ones off eBay - shiningStar is the seller I think. Mine are fine - there's a thread on here about them somewhere.

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

Get down to an oakley store, and try lots on. You'll see what suits your face much better.

As mentioned grab some chOakleys from Shining Star on Ebay, £17.50 all in. I need to buy some clear lenses for them when the shop has stock after xmas and I have some cash.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • Jawbones rock, I love mine. The standard lenses are great, but the yellow lenses are absolutely out of this world - make so much difference when the light's a bit dim.

Can't comment on the chOakleys but, as a contact lens wearer, I wouldn't be without mine 8)

For cycling the m frames or radars are the best for me. Jawbones probably third. Half jackets are a decent compromise if you want to wear them off the bike too.

Try straight jacket or half jacket. I have both and I don't have blind spots and the sun never creeps in. Cost for genuine - £150 don't buy Chinese, they r cheap for a reason.

I have had some of the 'Choakley' jawbones for almost a year and they are great for the money, and having compared them to real jawbones they look exactly the same. Only obvious difference being the quality of materials but for what you pay they're great. Search 3 lense cycling sunglasses in eBay for anyone still looking

The chap literally put them on as I went to the back page so snaffled before someone else did

I was in need of a winter pair of glasses, rather than splash the cash i bought a pair of the Chinese Oakleys and there's squat differece between them and the real thing, i don't doubt that the lenses are different but the build quality is the same. I've got 2 pairs of Oakleys and the wife has a pair all purchased from Oakley shops so i have something to compare the chinese ones to, there's a nice solid click when you lock the lenses in place and upto now i can't fault the things, plus if i go down the road or drop them i won't give a toss.

One of the best aspects of oakleys is the optical clarity and UV protection etc, if you think a pair of rip offs is going to offer the same protection you are very much mistaken. You'd be better off buying a cheap pair from Boots, at least you know they won't damage your eyes.

If you're buying a pair of polarised Oakleys for all year round use i get the point but.... i wanted a pair of clear/yellow lenses for dull winter days while i'm out on the bike, over the last few weeks those lenses have been covered in rain, grit and salt so i think that i made the right choice in paying £16 instead of £200, on sunny days my other glasses come out, if you are that bothered go out and purchase some Oakley lenses.

buying fake oakleys and genuine lenses seems to defeat the point of buying the fakes. the replacement lenses for my split jackets are £80 (thats the old non vented version too).

there is stuff that i would buy cheap knock offs of, but eye protection certainly isnt one of those. light is full of nasty stuff that damages your eyes, plus i wouldn't fancy hitting the deck and having to have shards of fake sunglasses lense removed from my face/ eye

  • dont defeat the point in my view and if i crash i think fake oakly lense or real lense broken in ones eye will do equal damage?

but think how embarrassing it would be in a&e!

oakley guarantee their lenses won't splinter or shatter under impact

Check out the YouTube vids for the tests on oakleys lenses. Very impressive stuff.
I couldn't swear that the fake oakleys would be up to those standards.

+1 for shining star. Frames £16 and bought some real lenses from CRC for £45. Look just as silly as the real deal. :D

I got a pair from shining star, excellent quality, I have genuine and fake.
Dealextreme also do very good ones for $14.50, very good quality.
I just got another two pairs :D

Would be interesting to see how the lens on those knock-offs performs (in terms of UV and shatter-resistance). Although I have a couple of pairs of genuine Oakleys there's no denying they're a complete rip-off and if the lens actually were safe then I'd have no problem using them. And yes, being tough is important, I've had a branch hit my Radar lens straight on when MTBing, the impact was enough to force the bottom of the lens into the top of my cheek (needing 9 stitches) but the lens itself was fine (although too scratched to use after).

Got mine through on saturday (so fast delivery) - went for the white frames.
Look really good - lens clips in/out easily with same mechanism for jawbones.
Materials are probably (??) not as strong as the oakleys but they seem good for the money - only long-term test will tell. Will probably buy another pair if these hold up over the next few months - recommended, cheers chaps!!

As above, - one of the best things about Oakleys are that their lenses are so fantastic to look through. I wouldn't bother with fakes either especially with something as important as your eyes.

Polarized are fantastic, completely cuts glare out.

Hydrophobe coated lenses will repel water.

Positive Red Iridium are great for increasing clarity of the road on sunny days.

Permisson (orangey colour) is absolutely fantastic to look through on dull days, brightens everything up :)

Go to an Oakley store and spend a hour or two in there trying everything on, you might be surprised what suits you and what doesn't.

I got the same ones. Already had a pair of real Jawbones that came with clear and dark iridium. Have taken the clear lenses and stuck em in the chOakleys so now I don't need to swap lenses over. Agree with some that the lenses from ShiningStar are not the best so should be avoided.
