I'm currently in the process of buying my first house with the GF. She's getting excited about our first home, decorating and our future together.......I'm most excited about the fact it has a garage which I have shot-gunned as a bike work shop/kit store!

Remember to stake your claim on the garage as a man cave early on otherwise she might get ideas...

I've already been scanning the web for extra security locks, eye bolts for chaining bikes to and high security padlocks. Luckily a few of my suppliers at work sell that sort of stuff. Also looking for shelving units for it....................I've just realised I've become a shed bore like my dad! HAHA

I will be firmly staking my claim on MY man cave. She already suggested it would be handy for storing some of her tack and other horse stuff.......that got a firm no!

The only thing horses are good for is glue and dog food....buy her a new kitchen and tell her that's her domain....the garage is for man stuff.

grab one room for yourself and the garage, give her a free hand over the decor of the rest of the house (she'll get it anyway). Then your one room can be a cinema/gym and you can legitimately keep the garage exactly how you want it. Otherwise before you know it there will be camping gear, chest freezers, packing crap and all sort of things that have no place in a workshop.

My garage Is a place I go to tinker and fettle in peace. The other room is a home cinema, I can't abide speakers in corners and telly's tucked away. If you want a good experience dedicate a room (if you can of course) 7:2 with a projector is the only way.

Enjoy your house and good luck.

This is the first thing I bought for our current house:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Starr-Wall-Moun ... 599&sr=8-1

It is mounted on the wall in (my) garage between beer fridge and kitchen door :)

I do allow washing machine & tumble dryer to sit in the garage, but am currently thinking about putting up a partition wall and door to seperate my area from hers. She keeps leaving the washing basket in my way... :(
